Gift for N.Z. Multiple Sclerosis Society
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. The national Multiple Sclerosis Society was yesterday presented with a cheque fo: $5O by the women’s committee of the Rbyal Commonwealth Society. Mrs E. I. Tombleson, M.P., the vice-president of the society, accepted the gift from Miss T. Peckston, chairwoman of the women’s committee during a brief ceremony at Parliament Buildings yesterday. Mrs Tombleson said the national. Multiple Sclerosis Society federated the work of the eight regional societies in assisting New Zealand’s near-3000 sufferers from multiple sclerosis, a progressively crippling neuro-muscu-
lar disease for which neither the cause nor cure is yet known. On a recent study tour of the United States, Mrs Tombleson had discussions with the American national organisation and with leaders of multiple sclerosis organisations in various states. She also visited hospitals and clinics which specialise in helping the disabled. The New Zealand Parliamentary press gallery, which (will celebrate its centenary with a series of functions in Parliament Buildings on December 4 and 5, has decided to undertake a special fundraising campaign for the national Multiple Sclerosis Society during the centennial celebrations.
