7 crimes reported in 12 hours
A robbery, an indecent assault on an eight-year-old girl, two suspicious fires, and three burglaries were reported to Christchurch detectives in a period of 12 hours yesterday.
Two persons have been Interview in connection wfth the assault and the robbery, and one will appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. At 8 a.m. yesterday a 17-year-old youth complained to the Criminal Investigation Branch of a robbery at 10.30 p.m. the previous evening.
The youth claimed he had been assaulted and robbed of $25 in Worcester Street. Detectives interviewed another youth, aged 18, who will appear in court today charged with robbery. Detectives have also interviewed a 13-year-old boy in connection with the indecent assault of a girl, aged 8, in St Martins last evening. At 8 p.m. the C. 1.8. investigated a fire in a garage in Marlow Road, where kindling had been fired. The flames failed to take hold, however, and there was no damage. Half-an-hour earlier a 200 ft fence in Opawa Road was set alight, and damage amounting to $2O was caused. Engines from the Sydenham and Christchurch Central fire stations attended and used one reel to extinguish the blaze. Thieves broke into a truck in Anderson Street, Riccarton last evening and removed the instrument panel. The panel is worth $65. A flat in Latimer Square was burgled on Thursday between 8.30 a.m and 10.45 p.m., and a $2O. transistor radio was stolen. Thieves forced open the door of a workshop of A. G. Healing and Company, Ltd, at 350 Tuam Street on Thursday night and stole $l4 in cash. i
