Signs have no effect
It was ridiculous that the council had signs prohibiting parking on the footpath at Governor’s Bay when they could not be enforced for lack of a by-law, said Cr C, C. Manson, at a meeting of the Mount Herbert County Coun- ' cil yesterday. He quoted another case of a worthless notice—one prohibiting boats being left on a launching ramp at Charteris Bay,. “And yet there is a boat chained to the notice post,” said Cr Manson. “We have so many regulations in New Zealand and we fail to comply with the ones we make. The council should have by laws so that we can get our teeth in.” Other councillors said the notices had some effect. It was agreed to consider by-! laws next year. •
