Pensions
Sir, —I am surprised at the short-sighted point of view expressed by “Forgotten Mum and Dad.” What will their attitude be when they themselves are the lucky recipients of universal superannuation or pensions? While it is perhaps true that some family men are more in need of further family benefits than some superannuitants are in need of further superannuation, to make a general statement to this effect would be ridiculous. Why begrudge a man his due if he has shown initiative enough to provide for a comfortable existence in his twilight years? Are we to stifle incentive to work harder to make our positions more secure and so all become vegetables and liabilities to the State?— Yours, etc., COOGEE BEAR. November 19, 1970.
