Rose festival Nelson would next year promote a national Rose Week, the Mayor of Nelson (Mr T. F. Home) said at the executive meeting of the South. Island Promotion Association yesterday. Two Rose Sundays brought on in Nelson had been so successful that a Rose Week had been promoted this year he said and had been a “fantastic” success. Next year’s occasion would be publicised throughout New Zealand and overseas, and it was hoped that it would become an annual event along the lines of the Hawke’s Bay Blossom Festival, Mr Home said. Museum visits By the end of the school year it was expected that more than 48,000 children would have visited the Canterbury museum in class visits this year, the museum's education officer (Mr J. H. Johnson) reported to the museum trust board yesterday. More than 1400 classes would have visited the museum, making it the busiest year on record. This number included many school children from the North Island, 347 in the last month alone, he said.
