Vegetable and fruit prices
Several vegetables rose in price at Christchurch produce markets yesterday compared with prices on Monday. Cauliflowers were 40c dearer at to $1.60 a case, lettuces were up 45c to $2.40 a case and the top price for spring onions was $1.35 a bunch compared with 60c on Monday. One vegetable which dropped noticeably in price was cucumbers, $1.5 cheaper at to 80c a case. The official price range for fruit and vegetables supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Association is:— Silver beet. —To $1 a case. Marrows.—s2 a case. Beetroot.—To $1 a case. Pumpkins.—To $l5 a sack. Cabbages.—To $1 a case. Cauliflowers.—To $1.60 a case. Onions.—To $7 a bag. Potatoes.—To $1 a sugar bag. Kumeras.—To $7.80 a case. Spring Onions.—4oc to $1.35 a bunch. Radishes.—To 50c a dozen. Lettuces.—To $2.40 a case. Stringless beans.—To $1.70 a case. Cucumbers.—soc to 80c a case. Broad beans.—To 40c a case. Rhubarb. —To 80c a case. Tomatoes.—To 39c a lb. Grapefruit.—To $7.50 a case. TamariUos.—To $5 a case.
