TWO-YEAR-OLD SPEEDY

"The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL. A dashing three-fur-long trial by the two-year-old Lomond filly, Princess Lomond, which is to make her first appearance in the first division of the Southland Breeders’ Plate at Invercargill tomorrow, was one of the highlights of training at Invercargill yesterday.

Princess Lomond ran away from another Breeders’ Stakes candidate, the Mellay filly, Tino Kaha, over three furlongs in 38 4-ssec, the

last two furlongs in 25 4-5 sec.

A member of S. Shaw’s team, Princess Lomond is smaller than most of Lomond’s first crop, but she might be his first winner as she handles herself in accomplished style. She is out of the Howe mare, Howe Lovely, a halfsister to the winners Knight’s Treasure and West Bound, being out of Night Melody, by Nightly from Tea Song, by Hunting Song. Tino Kaha is also a smart youngster but was no match for Princess Lomond. Country Touch and the novice, Bogentassie, ran one of the best sprint trials of the morning when they dashed over three furlongs in 38sec, the last two in

25 3-ssec. Country Touch is a Freelight four-year-old which has .showed marked ability in his racing to date. The two-year-olds, Freeloch, Lomox and Hagley Park, finished in line in a run over three furlongs in 40 3-5 sec, the first furlong in 13sec. Edinburgh and Space Flight went .off from the five and ran their last half in 51 2-ssec, the last three in 39sec.

Capasco, which is back at Invercargill, went over a round on his own, the last five furlongs in Imin 5 4-ssec and the final half in 52 4-5 sec. He bears a bright appearance. Golden Starlet and Late Fee finished clear of Bob’s Secret over half a mile in 52 2-ssec, the last three in 40sec. Golden Starlet is still

carrying a good amount of condition, but she is a smart galloper. Lilalee and Warlight were not troubled to run three furlongs in 41sec. Segundo and Bellaware were paired over a round, running the last half-mile in 51 2-ssec, the last three in 38 2-ssec, and both were doing their work well within themselves. It was a smart run.

In spite of her recent Riccarton failures, Bellewarp is in good order. Segundo has improved sharply since he raced at Wyndham, which was his first appearance for some months. Galloping was on the course proper, where the trestles were 25ft out. The track was dead after overnight rain.
