Jockeys seek more pay
(N.Z. Pt*ess Association) SYDNEY. New South Wales jockeys yesterday threatened to call a strike which would stop all racing in the state from December 16. The N.S.W. Jockeys’ Association presented the Australian Jockey Club with an ultimatum expiring on December 16. They are demanding a set riding fee of $lO plus 5 per cent of all prizemoney, for wins or placings. The A.J.C. this week raised riding fees to $lO where firsts prize is $2OO or more, $6 where the winner receives less than $2OO and 5 per cent of all place money where the winner receives $5OO or more.
The jockeys’ association president (Mr N. von Nida) said jockeys were also upset that the A.J.C. did not allow them freedom of movement on the Randwick and Warwick Farm courses. FOOTNOTE: In New Zealand the minimum riding fee payable to a losing jockey in respect of a flat race at a totalisator meeting is $l4.
