Bagheera stars at Awapuni

Bagheera showed a good turn of pace for a stayer at Awapuni yesterday and his final trial left little doubt as to his fitness for the Cheltenham High-weight at Feilding. Breathalyser ran an encouraging trial for Levin and Purdie excelled in preparation for Feilding. Working 30ft out on the course proper Bagheera shaded Colere at the end of half a mile in 49 2-ssec, the final three in 37sec. Bagheera ran a good race last week and should improve enough to have a winning chance tomorrow.

Purakau was a little better than Turfman over the final stages of six furlongs in Irnin 20 3-ssec, the last three in 39 3-ssec. Purakau won impressively last week and looks ready to repeat. Bogey Man was a little better than Aku-Hoa and Both Ways at the finish of seven furlongs in Imin 39sec, the final three in 39 2-ssec. Bogey Man is an improver ; for Levin next week. He will be ridden by D. Peake. Aku-Hoa is also close to his best fbr the Levin Cup. Dallion and Edime, two Feilding candidates, took

Imin 5 3-ssec for five furlongs, the last three in 38sec. Golden Aurora sprinted the last three of her work in 37sec, and Mediate and Lubra recorded 50sec for half a mile, the final three in 37sec. Fawzia impressed when running three furlongs in 37sec. Bounty went over half a mile in 52sec. He won well at the trials and should be prominent in the Oroua Nur-

sery. . On the plough Purdie completed seven furlongs in Imin 35sec, the last three in 40sec. He should win the Hatuma Hack Handicap at Feilding. Breathalyser galloped in her best style to beat Dalriad by two lengths at the finish of six furlongs in Imin 19sec. the last three in 38 1-5 sec. They will race at Levin and R. Skelton will ride Breathalyser. Blanaid and Country Lass covered six furlongs in imin 19 3-ssec, the last three in 40 2-ssec, while Crown Choice sprinted the last three of her work in 38sec.

The first-day winner, Flying Crest, was let off with an easy six furlongs in Imin 20sec, the last three in 40 2-5 sec. He should be hard to beat again. Foxallen and Gurkha’s Pride were paired over seven furlongs in Imin 35 2-ssec. On the inside trial Bindana wasted no time over six furlongs and was clocked the last three in 38sec. He is very well just now.
