Aust call-up to continue

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, Oct. 14. The Australian Minister -of Defence (Mr Malcolm Fraser) has said that Australia will not follow the American decision to end conscription. ! In making any such decision, Australia would have to look at the situation after the Vietnam war, Mr Fraser told reporters here last night, adding that the Nixon doctrine laid down that any country which wanted American assistance must earn that aid; it would not be automatic. "This has established circumstances in Which Australia must do more on her own part,” Mr Fraser said. “This implies steadily-expanding—-not dramatically, but stead-ily-expanding armed forces.” Asked whether he could see an end to conscription. Mr Fraser said: “In the foreseeable circumstances, I don’t think I can.”
