Warning labels wanted
The Government is to be asked to introduce legislation requiring specially designed locking caps and warning : labels on poisonous, flammable, explosive and corro- ■ sive products in every day ■ household use. The move comes from New i Zealand Jaycee and was endorsed at the national con- . ventiqn in Christchurch this ; week. The remit came from . the 1970 Waikgto regional . conference. , The conference was told . that the remit originated from recent legislation in Canada. It is proposed that ■ a uniform set of symbols be ■ designed. ' These would show both the j type and degree of hazard on 1 consumer chemical products 1 such as bleaches, polishes, ' glues and cleaners. All of ' these products would be re- > quired to carry the appropriate symbol on the principal : display panel of their con- ■ tainer, together with a warn- : ing statement and a note on i basic first aid treatment.
