Market drifts on limited interest

Trading was subdued on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. Turnover declined although there was no lack of sellers. There were 16 rises and 33 falls. The overseas list was weaker in line with the Australian market.

There were some strong rises in the list which, for the most part was made up of small gains by leaders. Consolidated Brick stood out with a jump of 5c and Trans Holdings regained 10c of recent sharp losses. Berlei gained 10c to 120 c on the news that shareholders had resolved to sell to Berlei-Hestia, Ltd. Second-line stocks were again prominent among the falls although several leaders were easier on the day. C.F.M., Feltex and Golden Bay Cement each lost 2d and N.Z. Forest Products retreated Ic.

Cory Wright and Salmond, and whitcombe and Tombs stood out with falls of 15c and 12c respectively. Comalco continued to weaken.
