CHARGES " A FRAUD”
Miss Davis defended (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) NEW YORK, Oct. 16. Miss Angela Davis, the black militant arrested in connection with charges of murder and kidnapping in California, is a member of the Communist Party, the! head of the party in the United States, Mr Gus Hall, said yesterday to the Associated Press. Mr Hall called the charges against Miss Davis: “A fraud and a frame-up.” Her arrest, he said, is p-rt of “a galloping hysteria inspired and fed by the Federal Government, which is moving the country rather speedily toward a police State.” Miss Davis is accused of purchasing guns used in the| courtroom escape that killed! a judge and three others, in San Rafael, California, on| August 7.
