Mr Anwar Sadat, one of the late President Nasser’s closest comrades was today formally proclaimed President of Egypt for the next six years, Cairo Radio reported. The 51-year-old Mr Sadat who has been acting as President since President Nasser’s death on September 28, was given a 90.4 per cent “yes” vote in a national referendum yesterday, the radio reported. The Interior Minister (Mr Shaarawi Gomaa) announced the results of the referendum at a press conference broadcast live by the State radio.
