Accord on marketing (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Oct. 15.. The Australian Wool Industry Conference—the woolgrowers’ “parliament”—decided in Sydney yesterday to accept the Federal Government’s offer to establish a statutory wool marketing authority, financed jointly by the Government and woolgrowers. The conference also agreed to ask the Government, because of the deepening crisis in the wool industry, to give top priority to introducing legislation to establish the authority. Sir Ewen Waterman, the chairman of the conference, said that woolgrowers hoped the scheme, an important national issue, could be assessed on a non-party basis, and dealt with promptly in expressing support of the proposal. The conference agreed to ask the Government to consider a list of minor amendments proposed by its two member-organisations, the Woolgrowers and Graziers’ Council, and the Wool and Meat Producers’ Federation.
