Cost rise for building
Building costs in Waimairi County last month averaged $7.72 a square foot for houses and $7.98 a square foot for flats, compared with $7.12 and $7.43 a year ago, according to the county chief building inspector (Mr E. Hughes). In September, the council issued 144 permits (35 for houses and seven for blocks of flats) valued at $717,746, compared with 157 permits worth $3,625,638 in September, 1969, when the permits included two major building jobs, worth $2,835,656.
