Kelly Jack for U.S.

Kelly Jack, a three-year-old gelding by Persian Garden II out of JoUette, bought at the 1969 national yearling sales by Mr J. F. Tutton, of Riccarton, for Mr V. Graber, of California, has left Riccarton for the United States.

He was flown from Christchurch to Auckland on Tuesday, and joined a consignment of horses bound for Toronto. From there he will be transported to New York, then across to California.

In spite of a short preparation, Kelly Jack showed marked ability in his initial race at Ashburton last week, although he ran very greenly. He was then trained by G. D. Lee. Mr Graber has done very well with New Zealand horses such as Cadiz, Braganza, Phoenician, Floodlit, Zinner, and Desert Chief, all of which had proved themselves in New Zealand. It will be interesting to follow Kelly Jack’s career. He is only

a young horse but is one of thi most promising novices trainei at Riccarton for some time.
