THE BALLARAT INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED EDUCATION has a position for a LECTURER IN BREWING in the Malting and Brewing Section it is newly establishing. Applications are invited from experienced brewers holding the qualification of a degree of diploma in biochemistry, microbiology or biochemical engineering and having had at least five years experience in brewing plants. Lecturing experience would be an advantage. The appointee would lecture to graduates in biochemistry and microbiology as applied to brewing and brewing technology, conduct practical courses and supervise investigational projects. He will be responsible for planning and setting up laboratory research and testing facilities and to assist in certification and metrication in a new organisation set up to serve the New Zealand Building Industry. Candidates should hold a good degree in science or engineering subject and should have practical experience of the problems of building materials and components in use. ENGINEER OR ARCHITECT To carry out research on improvements in housing design. The research will include studies on more economical use of materials, on improved methods of construction, on satisfaction of user requirements such as space, thermal comfort, acoustic and illumination levels and on methods of heating and providing thermal insulation. Close co-operation with the State Advances Corporation, Master Builders’ Federation. Standards Association, Fuel and Power Council, and other interested bodies will be an important part of the job. Candidates should hold a degree or equivalent qualification. Salary for the first post is in the range of $5OOO- - and for the second $3400-$5OOO, both according to qualifications and experience.
