Rescued in flood
Four elderly persons were rescued from their flooded hut at the Rakaia River mouth on Thursday. Constable C. A. Stevenson, of the Rakaia Search and Rescue Organisation, said the water in the huts area was up to 4ft deep in places.
There was about 2ft of water covering the floor of the hut and one woman was standing on a chair to keep out of the water.
Constable Stevenson and Messrs A. and G. Thomson, of Rakaia, with their jet boats made the rescue. After the four persons had been rescued the jet boats worked for about two hours rescuing ewes and their lambs which had been stranded in the flood.
