SECURITY APPEALS
Commissioner appointed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 17. Sir Douglas Hutchison, a former Supreme Court judge, has been appointed Commissioner of Security Appeals. Announcing this today, the Prime Minister (Sir Keith Holyoake), said provision for the appointment was made last year under the New Zealand Security* Intelligence
Act on the recommendation of a select committee of Parliament. The commissioner would inquire into complaints made by citizens that their careers or livelihood had been adversely affected by an act or omission of the Security Intelligence Service, Sir Keith said. Before his retirement in 1966 Sir Douglas was a senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court. He is chairman of the Royal Commission on Lake Manapouri at present.
