Hijacking bid fails

An attempt to hijack an Antonov airliner of United Arab Airlines as it flew over Egypt on Wednesday night with 46 people aboard was foiled by a security guard on the plane, the Middle East News Agency reported last night. The plane was on a regular flight from Luxor to Cairo when an Egyptian passenger burst into the captain’s cabin, holding a gun and a dagger. He ordered the pilot to fly to Saudi Arabia.
A security guard tackled the man and he was overcome after a brief struggle, the agency said. The plane then returned to Luxor airport, where security men arrested the would-be hijacker, named as Sayed Seif el-Nasr, an Egyptian photographer. ; The plane returned to I Cairo.
