UPSET IN CAMBODIA

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PHNOM PENH, Sept. 18. Fears were held yesterday that the Cambodian Government’s first big military offensive is headed for disaster, the Associated Press reported. Communist forces have threatened to cut off the sizeable task-force strung out along Highway Six, 47 miles north of the capital. A senior officer said that numerous small Communist bands have manoeuvred behind the Government troops and had blown up two more bridges on Highway Six between the troops and the town of Skoun. The Government offensive, the first major attempt by the Cambodian High Command to take the initiative in the six-month-old war, was aimed at reopening Highway Six to Kompong Thom, a key provincial capital in central Cambodia. The offensive has been stationary since Monday. Three Cambodian battalions, totalling about 1500 men, today left in an attempt to relieve the beleaguered Government task-force.
