Control Of Cats And Dogs
Sir, —There appears to be a misunderstanding regarding proposed regulations for the control of cats and dogs, at present before the five councils, City, Riecarton, Heathcote, Waimairi and Paparua. How this has come about I do not know, but may I assure the general public that the proposed regulations do not aim at the control of existing populations but are designed to bring, within seven years, complete control of the future generations of cats and dogs. I would also point out that the proposals are tentative, and it |is suggested that an independent honorary committee, chaired by council and comprising a member each of the veterinary association, S.P.C.A.. Health Department, breeders’ association and a layman be appointed to consider proposals. The time for control is overdue. Not a day passes without complaints of stray cats and starving litters of kittens and of roaming and barking dogs.—Yours, etc., R. J. GLEN. ] September 5, 1970.
