Wholemilk Biscuit Appeal

Sir, —Now that the Jaycees have done their good deed through the wholemilk biscuit appeal, can we expect that they will provide a statement of not only how much they received, but also how much they spent on publicity and promotion?—Yours, etc., , ROGER.

September 1, 1970. [Mr D. J. W. Hampton, regional co-ordinator, Operation Wholemilk Biscuit, replies: “A progress report on donations received to date is $31,500 in the Christchurch metropolitan area and $124,000 nationally. We have yet to finalise the collection from chemists but we expect this will increase the local figure by approximately $5OOO. Concerning local expenses, the secret-ary-treasurer is currently compiling a report which will be made available for public inspection. Ail television advertising and the vast majority of newspaper display advertising was sponsored. All special promotions, including the samples to schools campaign, was covered by sponsors. Classified advertisements and radio advertising, plus some ancillary costs on distribution and collection, were paid for out of local budget, but many donations are being received from local business houses against these expenses.”]
