Indoor Bowls To Logan
An outstanding finish enabled W. H. Logan to come from behind to win the Farmers’ Cup in the final of the annual pairs indoor bowls tournament conducted by the Canterbury Umpires’ Association at the week-end.
In the final R. Speer, who was partnered by Mrs Speer, led Logan, who was partnered by Mrs D. Robertson, 7-4, at the half-way stage. Speer was still I ehead at 10-7 with three ends to play and held a similar lead) at the final end. In an exciting finish, Speer was four down with his last shot to play but managed to reduce the deficit to two with that bowl. However, Logan drew another with his last to force the game to an extra end. Down on the head, Logan took the jack back to the end of the mat with his second bowl where neither skip could improve on his position. An umpire was called and Logan was awarded the game by the narrowest of margins. Forty-nine pairs scored sufficient points to qualify for the. deluding rounds of the tournament, out of a total entry of 145.
