ORANGE OATIES (Above)

Orange Oaties are econonomical biscuits which may be served plain or buttered for snacks. You will need: 4oz self-raising flour 3oz rolled oats 2oz cornflour 4oz butter 4oz sugar 1 tablespoon grated orange rind 1 teaspoon golden syrup 1 teaspoon bi-carbonate of soda 1 teaspoon boiling water Salt

Method: Melt butter in small saucepan and add sugar and golden syrup and stir until sugar is dissolved. Dissolve bi-carbonate of soda in boiling water and add. Sift flour and salt and add cornflour, orange rind and rolled oats. Pour on the mixture from saucepan and blend thoroughly. Roll out to } inch thickness on lightly floured board and cut into rounds with scone cutter. Place on greased tray and bake at 350 for 15 minutes or until set and lightly coloured. Strawberry Scones. To make a change in the flavour of scones, try putting a teaspoon of strawberry conserve or jam on one side of the dough, fold over and pinch edges together. Glaze and bake in the usual way.
