Vegetable And Fruit Prices
The first supplies of most of this year s spring vegetables, including asparagus and spring 'Cauliflowers-, are expected in [Christchurch produce markets towards the end of this week or [early next week. I Once again, however, salad ! vegetables came forward at the i markets in good supply yesterday and the steadj’ drop in prices continued. Cucumbers sold to $1.90 a case, a drop of up to $l.lO on prices at the end' of last week; tomatoes brought. 2;>c to 59c per lb, compared with 30c to 60c; lettuces sold at 30c to $1.60 a case, compared with up to $1.90 a case last week; and spring onions and radishes both sold for up to 60c a dozen bunches, a drop of 15c and 5c respectively. The range of fruit supplies, however, is still limited, although citrus fruit, including both New Zealand and Australian sweet oranges, is in good supply and meeting keen demand The official range of prices i supplied’ by the Christchurch!
