Voyage By Endeavour
H.M.N.Z.S. Endeavour will make another voyage to the Antarctic early next year.
The ship will leave Lyttelton at the end of January to take men and supplies to Scott Base and also to Campbell Island. On the voyages between New Zealand and the Antarctic the Endeavour will do oceanographic research.
In each of the last two years the Endeavour was reported to be making Its last trip to the Antarctic. Now the voyage in January may be the final one to the Antarctic because it is believed the ship will not be economically serviceable. Next month three supply' flights between Christchurch and the Antarctic will be made by Hercules of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
If the Endeavour is not used next season, the superintendent of the Antarctic division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (Mr R. B. Thomson) hopes that extra Hercules flights will be provided by the Air Force to carry the extra cargo normally taken south by ship.
