2 Minutes: C. Meads charged through a gap, was dragged down, and Milner picked up the loose ball and kicked through. Alberts fumbled badly 'and Sutherland gathered and crossed unimpeded. Kember missed—3-0. 9 Minutes: Alberts scored a magnificent try in the corner. Lourens won the line-out, the ball was spun along the line, Brand burst through Davis’s tackle and as Kember came across, Alberts dived inches in from the sideline. Brand missed—3-3. 25 Minutes: Urlich tried to clear from behind his goalline but his kick fell into Uys’s arms. He passed to van Staden who dropped a goal—-3-6.

36 Minutes: New Zealand won a line-out but pulled the ball back and were judged off-side. Brand kicked a penalty from the 25 and wide—-9-3.

39 Minutes: Kember kicked a penalty from three yards on the All Black side of the Northern 10-yard line —6-9, halftime.

52 Minutes: Northern won a line-out near the line, van Blommenstein got his pass away just as Lister reached him, and van Staden dropped a splendid goal—6-12. 54 Minutes: Meads crashed away from a line-out, fed Sutherland and the big lock smashed past three defenders to score. Kember converted—--11-12. 62 Minutes: Urlich took a tight head. Going darted away and beat three defenders before being grabbed by Roux. Murdoch picked up the loose ball, charged on, handed to Urlich, and the hooker scored between the posts. Kember converted—l 6-12.

72 Minutes: Brand sent up a high kick which beat Dick and Alberts took it on the bounce. Kember made a fruitless bid to catch him and Alberts dived in the corner. Brand missed from the touch—l 6-15 76 Minutes: Northern’s hooker, Pitzer, was penalised at a ruck and from 35 yards Kember kicked a penalty—--19-15.
