Inter-Church Newspaper

The case for the publication of an inter-church newspaper W’as growing continually stronger, the National Council of Churches heard at its annual meeting in Christchurch.

In a report received by the meeting, the council's special committee set up to investigate the possibility of a united religious press said that this was because of the impatience with the fragmentation of Christian effort and because of an increasing recognition of the need to relate the gospel image to the ordinary affairs of men. The committee said that such a paper would endeavour to supplement dailynewspaper reporting of items of religious significance, to cover items of major importance affecting the churches, and to depict the church in action in the world.

It would seek to carry vigorous editorial and other comment on a wide range of topics, aiming at an impact on the general community.
