A. Jacklin (Britain), the United States Open golf champion. staged a splendid comeback to get within four strokes of the leader after the third round of the 8150.000 John Player classic on Saturday. Jacklin, off form since winning the United States Open, hit a solid par-72 in winds that whipped up to gale force. This brought him up to 218 for the 54 holes played so far. The leader was the Irishman. C. O’Connor, on 214. Pressing hard with Jacklin. on 218, were B. Barnes, who led after the first two rounds but had a 77 in the third. N. Coles (75) and G. Cunningham (73).
