TROTTING AND RACING Good Racing At All Meetings Expected

Although the interest of Christchurch race-followers centres mainly on the first night of the New Brighton Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway tonight, there promises to be plenty of high-class racing at the four galloping meetings today.

At Wanganui, the Wanganui Guineas prorides the first of the season’s classics for three - year ■ olds and while there does not appear to be a horse of the calibre of last year’s winner, Piko, engaged, the race has still drawn a good field.

The Wanganui correspondent of “The Press” selects the Pakistan II colt, Shaheen, to win and has made him his best bet at the meeting. On the strength of wins at

his last two sarts and his excellent breeding, Shaheen should lead his rivals home at the end of the mile. Our Auckland correspondent, although he makes the promising Lancastrian his best bet, confidently expects Jan’s Beau, Panzer Chief and Sir Cullus all to win also. On form their chances seem bright. Jan’s Beau won well at the Pakuranga meeting a fortnight ago and Panzer Chief, tile winner of all four starts and Sir Cullus, a winner of six races in the last three months, have the necessary form to add to their records.

Goldy Giri, which has been scratched from her Wanganui engagement to race at the Poverty Bay Hunt Club’s meeting at Gisborne, is labelled a “good thing” by our Hastings correspondent, who will cover the meeting. Although her form has been inconsistent she won with so much in hand at Wanganui last week that he expects her to have little trouble in beating her five rivals in the Ruie Hansen Memorial Handicap. A last-start winner at Gore Bill O’Groats is our Dunedin correspondent's top fancy. He feels that the Bellborough five-year-old won so well last week that a 51b weight rise will not stop him winning again. On the strength erf three good runs this season. True Forbes should be the best bet at Addington tonight After a fifth and a second at the National meeting he ran a

sound race, after receiving a poor run, behind his stablemate, Loyal Adios, at Timaru last Saturday. He has some strong oppo. sition to contend with, but his form suggests he will win.
