UNIVERSITY VACANCIES I THE UNIVERSITY OF AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND SCHOOL OF MEDICINE Applications are invited for the following positions. Conditions of appointment and method of application are available from New Zealand or Australian universities, or from the undersigned. The commencing salaries will be established in accordance with qualifications and experience within the following scales: 8NZ6740-8NZ7639 p.a. (medically qualified senior lecturers); 8NZ4300-8NZ6600 p.a. (non-medical), in exceptional cases this range may be extended up to 8NZ7200 p.a. MEDICINE: SENIOR LECTURESHIP. An exceptionally well qualified applicant could be appointed at the level of an associate professor, basic salary 8NZ9550 p.a. The successful applicant will be expected to assist the professor of medicine in the detailed organisation of the clinical course in medicine, to assist in the care of patients in the Auckland group of hospitals, and actively to pursue research projects in a discipline within internal medicine. He will be expected to have special competence in one field of internal medicine and to work closely with other physicians of the Auckland Hospital Board in this specialty.

CLINICAL THERAPEUTICS: SENIOR LECTURESHIP. The successful applicant will be expected to assist the professor of medicine in the detailed organisation of the clinical course in medicine, to assist in the care of patients in the Auckland group of hospitals, and actively to pursue research projects in a discipline within internal medicine or clinical therapeutics. He will be expected to have special competence in one field of internal medicine and to work closely with other physicians of the Auckland Hospital Board in this specialty. PATHOLOGY: SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW. Applicants should hold a degree in medicine or some other branch of biological science, and should have post-graduate experience in some aspect of experimental pathology or biology, preferably in biochemistry. The research programme of the department is concerned with experimental and clinical aspects of renal and myocardial disease. Present personnel in the department offer considerable expertise in the morphologic aspects of experimental pathology, including light and fluorescent microscopy and transmission and scanning electron microscopy. It is envisaged that the successful applicant would develop the biochemical aspects of research within the department. PSYCHOLOGY OR SOCIOLOGY within the department of psychological medicine: LECTURESHIPS. Applicants should have experience or interest in any of the following: Psychometrics, social psychology, clinical psychology, sociology of mental health, epidemiology, survey methods, the application of automated data processing techniques and systems analysis to mental health, community mental health or social psychiatry. Applicants will be expected to pursue an academic career with primary emphasis on teaching and research. and to assist in the development of an academic department of psychological medicine which will have a strong emphasis on the behavioural and social sciences and cost/benefit analysis of services.

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Research Fellow or Research Fellow in the department of Far Eastern history. The department wishes to make an appointment of a scholar with research experience in any one of the following fields: modern Chinese history, modern Japanese history, pre-modern history. The salary of a senior research fellow is determined within the range $A9360-$A11,190 per annum and that of a research fellow within the range 8A6318-8A8698 per annum. Appointment is usually for three years with a possible extension to five years. Superannuation is on he F.S.S.U. pattern with supplementary benefits.
