TEEN-AGE TENNIS
Coaching Scheme
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON.
A teen-age tennis coaching programme has been negotiated between the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association and the Rothmans Sports Foundation.
The director of the sports foundation (Mr P. G. Snell) announced last night the foundation would make $5OOO available for coaching junior squads of boys and girls in all associations.
The grant was described as “a giant step forward in our tennis programme,” by Mr S Painter, the N.Z.L.T.A. chairman.
“We will use the money to form squads in each association, and from these squads will come the Slazenger and Howe Shield teams.
“The competition, when it is held in January, will be known as the Rothmans junior round-robin,” he said.
