Nation, Not Athletes (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—-Copyright) STOCKHOLM. The decision of the International Amateur Athletic Federation to suspend South Africa will not prevent its athletes from competing as individuals.
The federation congress unanimously adopted a resolution suspending the South African Amateur Athletic Union from international championships and matches for the next two years. The resolution said the union’s continued membership in the federation would be decided at the next congress at Munich in 1972. The Swedish association chairman (Mr Matts Carlgren), host at the Stockholm congress, said yesterday thal South African athletes would still be able to take part as individuals in international competitions, and foreign athletes could visit South Africa and take part in meetings there, also as individuals.
