Fox Glacier Bus Service Extended
In view of the encouraging support given to the present service, N.Z.R. Road Services is planning to extend its Christchurch to Fox Glacier, via Arthur’s Pass, service. The frequency of the services will be extended, operating both ways each day from Mondays to Saturdays.
It is proposed to reschedule some services between Hokitika and Greymouth to form a connection at Kumara with the Arthur’s Pass buses. The proposals are to cancel the 9.15 a.m. (GreymouthHokitika) and the 2.15 p.m. (Hokitika - Greymouth) services, and introduce a new service departing from Greymouth at 12.25 p.m. daily from Monday to Saturday, for Kumara.
would be: depart Hokitika, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, after the arrival of the 1.50 rail-car from Christchurch, for Fox Glacier, arriving at 12.05 p.m. and return from Fox Glacier to connect with the 5.20 p.m. railcar.
The 9.55 a.m. (Sunday) bus from Greymouth to Fox Glacier would then depart at 9 a.m., arriving at 12.55 p.m. The return service would depart at 1.30 p.m., arriving in Greymouth to make a connection with the 6.15 rail-car to Christchurch.
It will then be possible to depart from Greymouth (12.25 p.m.) and arrive in Christchurch at 6.5 p.m. or at Fox Glacier at 5.40 p.m. The service would leave from Christchurch at 8.45 a.m., or Fox Glacier at 8.40 a.m, for Greymouth, arriving at 1,40 p.m.
The district manager (Mr M. Rodgers) said that the services would provide improved facilities for the movement of passengers, freight and mail, and will be advantageous in increasing the tourist potential to the area. Mr Rodgers is placing applications with the Transport Licensing Authority for new time-tables.
Proposals are also under way to reorganise the present unscheduled composite coach service between Hokitika and Fox Glacier. New schedules
