In a close ballot at last night’s council meeting of the New Zealand Rugby League, the national director of coaching (Mr C. R. Mountford, of Auckland) was appointed manager of the team which will compete in the World Cup series in England later this year. Mr L. Blanchard (Canterbury) will be coach.

The meeting also decided that the president of the New Zealand League <Mr R. G. McGregor, of Auckland) will represent New Zealand at the International Rugby League conference, which will be held in conjunction with the World Cup series. Mr Mountford will be New Zealand’s other delegate. The team, of 19 players, will be selected after a trial match in Auckland between a New Zealand XIII and The Rest, on September 12. Mr J. Percival (Auckland) was appointed to referee the match.
