Cars Strike Bridges
Three persons were taken to Christchurch Hospital in a St John ambulance after their car had struck the western approaches of the Moorhouse Avenue overbridge at 10.47 p.m. yesterday. Mrs Myrtle Manifold, of 66 Essex Street, suffered severe scalp lacerations and was knocked unconscious, Mrs Mary Stevenson, of 61 Essex Street, suffered facial lacerations, and William Charles Friend, of 437 Worcester Street, suffered head injuries. When his car struck the northern abutment of the old Waimakariri River bridge and rolled over several times, Leonard Fowke, of 144 Stewarts Gully, suffered head injuries. He has been admitted to Christchurch Hospital. Mr Fowke’s car rolled sideways down the centre of the bridge.
