Transformation Of Man
Sir,—Dr Dobson tells us that psychiatrists have an outstanding record of resistance to oppressive regime, “and have been specially selected for unfavourable treatment by Hitler and Governor Reagan.” This bracketing of Hitler and Governor Reagan displays an extraordinary lack of any sense of proportion. Hitler was a paranoiac dictator who imprisoned in vile circumstances, and put to death, millions of his fellow citizens; Governor Reagan is nothing more than a con-
vinced conservative, a governor of the state of California, democratically elected and re-elected. Perhaps in Dr Dobson’s “liberal” mind the two men are in the same category. But I would not like any Americans living in our midst to think that all New Zealanders share such feelings—or care to condone such implied discourtesy.—Yours, etc., HELEN GARRETT. September 2, 1970.
