Discussion on the report stage of the Post Office Amendment Bill (No. 2) occupied most of yesterday afternoon. The Government won a division 40-37, after which the bill was read a third time and passed. The Private Savings Banks Amendment Bill was also passed.
Eleven petitions praying for an increase in the education allowance were presented. Ministers answered 10 questions. The Taupo Borough Empowering (Information Centre) Bill was read a first time and referred to the Local Bills Committee.
The House proceeded with the second reading debate of the Payroll Tax Bill.
