HASTINGS WORK

Good Efforts By Maidens "The Press’* Special Service HASTINGS. The maidens Winning, Kirrama, and Red Nib, were among the most impressive workers at Hastings yesterday morning of district horses due to race at Wanganui. The steeplechaser Agra, a winner last week at Foxton, impressed as being very fit for his task in the Tally Ho Steeplechase, and Sikander and Riverview ran good trials for the Durie Hack Handicap.

The plough was used for all fast work and it was wet but still offering a fairly good galloping surface. Fraternize worked with Carlos and they ran five furlongs in Imin 4 4-ssec, the last three taking 39 4-ssec. This was a splendid workout and though Fraternize has not raced since the autumn, he is fit enough to make his presence felt in the Owen Handicap. Kirrama (T. Whittington) ran half a mile in 51 3-ssec, the last three taking 39 3-ssec.

Red Nib, which could be a threat in the Waimarino Maiden at Wanganui, ran six furlongs in Imin 21 3-ssec, the last three in 40 3-ssec. This was an excellent solo performance. Last start Red Nib was a somewhat unlucky fourth at Tauherenikau. Riverview (D. Thomas) and Sikander (L. Carston) ran five furlongs in Imin 4 4-ssec, the last four in 52sec and the last three in 39sec. They are both in the Durie Hack Handicap and Sikandar in particular would have to be taken into account. Winning (R. Marsh), and Represent <D. Thomas) ran half a mile and Winning won by three lengths in 52 3-ssec, the last three in 39 4-ssec. It was a promising trial.
