TROTTING Upper Class Qualifies For N.Z. Cup

Upper Class qualified to start in the New Zealand Cup in November when he led for the last 10 furlongs and a half in the National Handicap at Addington Raceway last evening. His win came after a sound sixth in the Louisson Handicap on the first day of the meeting.

Upper Class is trained at Balclutha by L. H. Tilson for the Otley Syndicate and he was driven by the Tinwald trainer, D. J. Townley.

Townley trains the fine staying mare, Stella Frost, for Tilson. Upper Class and Stella Frost will form a very strong bracket in the cup in November.

Upper Class took the lead from Jacquinot Bay at the end of two furlongs and a half, with True Averil sprinting up to second at the mile post Friendly Forbes, too, was handy at that stage, and Manaroa was improving wide out

Good Chase made a successful return to racing earlier this month at Yonkers Raceway. He beat two of his rivals in the international series at Yonkers earlier in the year—Fulla Napoleon and Rum Customer—in Irnin 59 3-ssec, The stake for the race was $25,000. The former Auckland trotter Mountain Pride, won in 2min 3 2-ssec in a race carrying a stake of $12,500. Fandango and Black On were New Zealand-bred placegetters at the same meeting.

Royal Armour and Aronmot brqke early and Waterloo broke with two furlongs and a half to run.
