Shirley Wins Rugby, 16-8

Shirley Boys’ High School recovered for an eight-point deficit shortly after half-time to beat Westlake Boys’ High School (Auckland), 16-8, yesterday. Although it held a territorial advantage in the first half, Shirley was not able to finish off its movements successfully. After the interval the fine lineout work of R. Smith ensured Shirley of a plentiful supply of possession. The Shirley forward, R. Davison, was prominent in his team’s revival and his two tries were a just reward for his excellent all-round play. The other Shirley try was scored by S. Scott while M. Williams kicked a penalty and a conversion. For Westlake, P. Gibson scored a try and G. Watt kicked a penalty and a conversion.
