No Hight For Piko
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND. A surprise last-minute cancellation of the chartered flight on which the brilliant galloper, Piko, was to have begun his journey to France on Thursday, may have robbed him of a start in Europe’s richest staying race, the Prix De I’Arc de Triomphe, Piko was to have joined an airlift to New York originating in Australia and chartered by a United States transport agent, Mr A. Nicholls. However, on Thursday, the Auckland agent handling the transport of Piko for the Californian, Mr Nelson Bunker Hunt, was advised that the airlift was off. “Now we are waiting to see if Qantas gets the green light to go ahead with an August 27 charter on behalf of the Melbourne horse dealer, Mr R. McArdle, in which case he will negotiate to try to get Piko on that plane.”
