NEW CELL BLOCK
<N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 21. Approval has been given for a medium-security cell block holding 84 prisoners to be built at Paparua Prison, near Christchurch. The Minister of Justice (Mr Riddiford) said today that tenders would be called soon and the new block should be completed in 1972. “The new cell block will help to relieve the overcrowding in Paparua and other medium-security prisons,” Mr Riddiford said. The department had further plans for improvements at Paparua. A new boilerhouse would be built soon and would be followed by other buldings which would give improved facilities for administration, education and other purposes.
