Heathcote Reservoir

Sir,—David Biggs may yet be unlucky. The Heathcote County Clerk says an at-, tempt will be made to camouflage the reservoir with Virginia creeper. It might grow! Then in autumn the reservoir will glow fiery red against the brown hillside. And since Virginia creeper is deciduous the winter chill will reveal the concrete bulk for what it really is—a monument to the aesthetic poverty of both the designer and the councillors who placed it there. Has the same council authorised the monstrous pipe which rises anacondalike out of Ashgrove Terrace and straddles the Heathcote just east of Barrington Street? One trusts it is temporary, but how long will temporary be?—Yours, etc., JOHN POLLARD. August 14, 1970. [Mr K. D. Stills, Heathcote County Clerk, had no comment to make on the letter.]
