Herd In U.K. Suspect

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LAUNCESTON (England), August 19. A suspected outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease has been reported on a farm near the Cornish town of Launceston, where three of a herd of Guernsey cows are believed to have the disease. A five-mile ban on the movement of animals near the farm has been imposed by the Ministry of Agriculture as a precautionary measure. Britain suffered a disastrous outbreak of the disease in 1967-68 which ended only with the slaughter of more than 400,000 animals.
