FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep depression covers most of the Tasman Sea and an associated frontal zone is moving slowly eastward on to New Zealand.
Forecast: Canterbury.—North-easterly winds, fresh to strong on exposed coasts, otherwise moderate; cloudy with scattered light rain at times, especially about the coasts and high country; temperatures moderate. Buller and Westland.—North-east winds becoming fresh to strong in exposed places, otherwise moderate; periods of light to moderate rain; temperatures moderate. Marlborough.—East to north-east winds fresh to strong in exposed places, otherwise moderate; periods of mainly light rain developing; temperatures moderate. Nelson.—North-easterly winds becoming fresh to strong in exposed places; overcast with periods of rain, heavy about the high country; moderate temperatures. Outlook: rain in most districts.
