Sir,—“Age Beneficiary” points out his rates are just on $lOO and that $5O each is the four-weekly pension for himself and wife. He should know that a boy or girl aged . 17, granted university’ entrance qualification, can start clerking in the Social Security Department at $1487 a year, $114.40 for 4 weeks. Witij galloping wage increases, by December, 1972, a devaluation of currency is practically '• certain, whichever party becomes the Government. As* in France after devaluation of the franc through wage increases, the price of bread for ratepayers on the bread; line . is going to be astronomical As in France, tourism : will!
flourish, and in 1974 Christchurch will be thronged with overseas tourists, enjoying their currency advantage, and the cheap (for them), amenities subscribed to by the afore-mentioned ratepayers.— Yours, etc., A. B. CEDARIAN. August 20,1970.
