Performing Dog Shot
, (N.Z. Press Association) TAIHAPE, August 19. Mac, a performing dog. which is believed to have raised about $14,000 for charity at displays throughout New Zealand, was found shot and wounded in the head at Ohakune on Monday morning. A Taihape veterinarian, Mr G. Joyce, who treated Mac. said the wound had affected the dog’s hearing and vision.
A bullet hit the back of Mac’s head and came out in the middle of the forehead, he said. Under the control of Mr N. C. McPherson, Mac gave charity performances for several years. Mr McPherson died in 1966, and 20 months ago the dog was sold to an Ohakune man.
